India - Crippled..

Next sunday would be another important day in the series of drives initiated to drive off the dreaded n crippling disease called polio..Pulse polio immunization aims at eradication of polio which was initially targetted to be done by the year 2000 but alas..the deadline has been extending perpetually since then..The more we try to grab it by its neck ,the more the disease sticks its head out in some nook and corner of the country. The massive publicity it gets is quite remarkable. But despite the awareness thrz something we are definately missing out.The sheer population is the obvious answer. But i guess its more about how we use our population than crib abt it.On one hand we boast of the stupendous progress the country has made.We admire the city buzzing with activity standing tall with its skyline and on the other ,some young kid crawls on the floor in a crowded slum crippled with polio looking up at the same skyline..whew..
The World Health Organization spends billions every year to eradicate this disease but sadly most of it goes down the drain.. Health workers have a blast with booze and meat with the polio alloted money and that too on the night b4 the immunization day..Every pulse polio day turns into an added bonus..Its sad but true..India still stands crippled..
