As I walked through the streets of Mumbai today the faint smell of gun-powder was still lurking in the air..The sweepers were busy on the streets working on possibly their busiest day of the year..As i walked into the building of Wadia Maternity Hosp the beautiful sunshine lighted up the dark corridors inside the building..The beautiful spiral staircase lead me towards the nursing home and i got into my routine chores..
I always ponder seeing these majestic heritage buildings if they ever could speak..The volumes of history hidden in them is mesmerizing..They have seen the real transformation of the city from the victorian era to the new metropolis and with it have stood the test of time..I'm no architecture student ,but then one doesnt need to be an expert to admire these magnificent structures..This hospital built in 1924 must have churned out thousands of young aspiring doctors into astute clinicians and is still going strong..As everytime a new cry of life comes alive ,I wonder how many families must have been associated with this hospital atleast sometime in their life..Those anxious husbands walking down the aisle..those apprehensive mother-in laws peeping into the labour room as often they can..and the ever wacky nursing staff shooing them off..years roll on...generations change but somethings never change..do they ?

Oh you bet...Wadia is a wonderful place in terms of the beauty of the building...and the works. And I like the fact that when you look up at the ceiling you don't see the dust accumulated since the days of Nowrosjee Wadia! Jokes apart. BTW did you read the plaque...Nowrosjee Wadia churned out some 24 lakh rupees(Hope I remember ir right) back in 1924 for the place...
